Did I really hear that? Wow!

Zoo's comment about REO Speedwagon's song "Tough Guys" made me think of this:

What was the first time you heard a song (whether on the radio, on record, or whatever the platform) that included a dirty word in the lyrics?

For me, I think it would've been Elton John's song "Your Sister Can't Twist But She Can Rock 'n' Roll" (on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road) with its couplet:

"I heard of a place at the back of town
Where you really kick the shit when the sun goes down."

‘Bad bad Leroy brown
Baddest man in The whole damn town’

I was a little kid and afraid to sing along

"Rocket Man" by Elton John has the line "in fact, it's cold as hell"

That's the first one that I remember.

Is "hell" a dirty word??

Probably "You're Breaking My Heart" from Son of Schmilsson.

I had thought maybe "A Boy Named Sue" but I think that's just the earliest song I remember hearing with a bleeped word.

"Louie Louie" (no bad words, but we were warned!)
