When I first heard about Todd taking over Rick Ocasak's place in the Cars, my first thought was that it was like Sir Paul taking over Eric Carmen's place in the Rasberries

Like I said in another post on some topic or another, Todd Rundgren forming a band with Elliott Easton and Greg Hawkes would seem like a really cool idea...unless it was some sort of half-assed Cars reunion. Then it just seems pointless and dumb.

Although from what I'm told, the album really isn't half bad. But I still have no interest in hearing it.

I'm sure you can find the single, "Not Tonight" (probably a video) on the web somewhere. It sounds an awful lot like the Cars, for better or for worse.

Agreed. It's a long way from "There's No Other Way" (which had all of the cultural impact of Inspiral-fucking-Carpets or The Farm) to the Good, The Bad, and The Queen (which I love, btw).

Hasn't "indie rock" now become a stylistic designation, though, and not just an indication of the way a band is releasing its music? Kind of like "new wave."

Indie = "not on MTV"/ "not marketed specifically to teens"
Alternative = "not rap"

Weird enough that Watt's in the Stooges. None of it that surprising, really. Playing an instrument professionally still puts you in an insular world and finding like minded musicians that will show up for practice is still a shot in the dark. Go with what you find or the year ends with talking about playing.
