Original guitarist for Cake. He wrote "The Distance," which was their first original song to make any sort of splash. He left Cake after their second album and formed Deathray.
If you’ve never heard Deathray, their debut was really catchy Cars-ish power pop.
I only discovered it because it was a featured artist at a listening booth in a mall music store (fye?) and the Warhol image on the cover intrigued me.
