Jeez, his last couple of years were a struggle, after falling down the stairs. The second well-known musical figure in as many weeks (after Ace Frehley) to die as the result of a fall.

I saw Soft Cell a few months ago opening for Simple Minds. I had no idea Ball was struggling. RIP.

From what I understand he was not touring with Soft Cell on this US leg, and they had a fill in keys player.

This was six months ago, and Almond introduced him onstage. They did have an auxiliary keyboardist, though.

I really like the photos of him as a portly OAP. He was such a dashing young thing but evidently his Englishness won out.
