Warren Zevon's father was gangster William "Stumpy" Zevon, an associate of Bugsy Siegel. Stumpy worked with Mickey Cohen, the guy charged with helping set up the Flamingo Hotel in Vegas for Bugsy. A real life "henchman"!

So that explains "send lawyers, guns and money."

That's weird, as I was just thinking about that factoid yesterday. Must've been something in the air.

Yeah, Zevon was from the era of tough Jewish gangsters. A lost era, although it's surprising how many of white-collar professional Jews of my parents' generation still kinda reminisce about that time. The book "Tough Jews" by Rich Cohen is a really good book about that generation, and how American Jews still have a sense of fondness for that period of lawlessness and violence.
