Man, that's too bad. The Suburbs were a pretty unique propostion, and Chaney was a big part of that.

Oh, that's terrible news! I do love The Suburbs! One of America's finest for my ears. Chaney was a singular vocal presence! One of my bitter regrets was that when I saw Mott The Hoople in Cleveland in 2019, I missed seeing The Suburbs open for the show as they were only doing the Milwaukee-Chicago leg of the tour. Though I see that Chaney had not been with the band following their 2013 return with "Sí Sauvage." They had an eccentricity that grouped them with Pere Ubu in my mind. That unique Midwestern POV that was so powerful in a rock band. I have the two …turns out there's a third, recent albums in my want list and still need to hear them. At least Chaney died by drowning as opposed to the slow, painful wasting away.

“From the first time we saw them play ‘In Combo,’ we were intoxicated with the band,” said Lori Barghini, who used The Suburbs’ song “Love Is the Law” as a theme for the long-running MyTalk 107.1 talk show “Lori and Julia” that she hosted with Julia Cobbs."

That has always been my go-to Suburbs song, too.
