Re: Beat v Beat

Beat v Beat

This Wednesday in St. Louis, the Adrian Belew/Tony Levin Beat will be playing at the Factory, while Dave Wakeling's (English) Beat will be playing at the City Winery. Where's that deadbeat Paul Collins? If he came to town that night, things would get really fun.

Poor Dave Wakeling. Just when it looked like he was the last Beat standing, Belew and Levin show up.

Sounds like a Beat Happening.

I have records by all involved parties, and have to admit right now I’d wanna hear ‘just can’t stop it’ over ‘the beat’ or Crimson’s ‘beat’.

So I guess that indicates which show I’d be at. ( you see what I did there, don’t you?)

They should reunite the Beat that forced the "English" adjective on to Wakeling's group and have them play their first show on the same day in the same town.

EDIT: I take it back, they never split, they were renamed "The Paul Collins Beat" and per Wikipedia they toured with the (English) Beat in 2012!

In Fall 2012, The Paul Collins Beat joined a package tour "The Two Beats Hearting As One Tour," co-headlining with Two-tone Ska group The Beat...The tour package included dates at large music halls, casinos, auditoriums and clubs. According to a September 2012 interview with Collins, "Contrary to what the internet fabricates, there never was and is no animosity toward The English Beat. I am still a big fan of The English Beat. Ska is really cool music. Dave is a good friend. He's always so nice and always upbeat. He's just as supportive of my music as I am of his. Both of our fanbases are enjoying hearing each other's music." According to an October 2012 press release, Dave Wakeling stated, “Paul and I originally met back in '83 and have been in touch occasionally over the years, but recently we've been in closer Facebook contact, which led to this idea becoming a reality....Two beats, hearting as one!”

That's surprisingly wholesome.

Curiously, they were referred to as The British Beat here, record covers and merch. Seems like a hassle and an expense.
