BREEDERS is what made the Pixies bearable.

I never liked The Pixies either. When I found out the singer called himself "Black Francis" that was just the limit.

I like a few songs by both bands, but not enough to call myself a big fan of either.

In 1994, I saw Frank Black open for the Ramones; I saw the Breeders at Lollapalooza the same year. Then I saw the reunited Pixies in 2005 (I think). None of those sets displeased me, but none of them made me a big convert either.

I like the first two Breeders albums and have never heard anything else. Saw them a few years ago with my nephew (at his impetus!) and liked 'em, but it was hardly lifechanging.

I saw the Pixies at ACL Fest on their reunion tour. I can't say I was that impressed - it had the air of going through the motions for the paycheck. (I remember Black talking openly about shoring up his retirement fund in interviews at the time, though he may have been sarcastic.) But it was also a festival show, which often come across that way. I haven't seen them since. As far as their records, thus far I've been perfectly happy to keep Surfer Rosa and Doolittle in my collection, but haven't filled it out or listened to any of the reunion records. (Though I would like to add Bossanova.) They're one of those bands who have had a huge influence, and I respect them for that and for forging a distinctive artistic identity. But I don't listen to 'em much.

I used to have the first Frank Black record, but haven't heard anything since.

Pixies > Breeders

I always thought the "Black Francis" moniker was pretty funny.

I’ve felt the same as Michael and Delvin re: both of their catalogs, as well as their influence and impressions of them live.

I’ve long wondered if the Pixies hadn’t been signed by 4AD, if their influence would’ve been the same.

I was never a huge fan of The Pixies, but I've always liked them. I could create a playlist with 25-30 songs and really enjoy it. I haven't listened to any of their new music since they reformed except 2019's Beneath the Eyrie, which I thought had some good tunes on it.

I saw them live in the early '90s in Miami Beach, in their "prime" you could say...no talk about retirement accounts and Kim Deal was still in the band. Pere Ubu opened. That was a pretty cool show all around. I don't remember much about The Pixies set except they opened with a few slow songs before picking up the pace and then all was good.

(Stop writing to go check if the setlist is on setlist.fm...)

And here is a link to the setlist from 11/12/1991 at the Cameo Theater in Miami Beach for anyone who cares to take a gander at what they were playing live at the time.
