When the Dead Milkmen are listing all the bands that irk them at the end of "Instant Club Hit," one of the offending combos is Naked Truth. Does anyone know who the heck Naked Truth were? I've never had a clue. Discogs lists 12 bands by that name, nearly all of which formed after "Instant Club Hit," including one that features Pat Mastelotto. None of the few Naked Truths that predated the song seem likely candidates to have upset the Milkmen - they're a motley assortment of short-lived outfits that released one single here or there, but none seem to have been in the Euro-danceable new wave business and taking money away from nice, hardworking American boys like the Milkmen.

This site features entries for Nakeds Prey, Raygun, City and Eyes (strangely not in correct alphabetical order on the N page) but no Truth. Spotify is no help, either.

Who was Naked Truth? I liked most of the other bands the Milkmen were upset by, so chances are I'd like Naked Truth if I had any idea who they were.

The ones on Rare Noise Records are the first that comes to mind.

The Naked Truth on Rare Noise is the combo featuring Pat Mastelotto, which didn't form until 2011 or 2013 or so.

However, at the time "Instant Club Hit" was recorded, Mastelotto was still in Mr. Mister, who very definitely would've been a natural fit for the Milkmen's shit list. So maybe the Milkmen were psychic and knew that Mr. Mister's drummer would someday be in a band called Naked Truth and got confused as to which was current.

(Completely unrelated side note, I had no clue til just now that Mastelotto was the drummer on the Friends theme song. So if you ever find yourself for some reason trying to do a Six Degrees of Separation between Robert Fripp and Jennifer Aniston, Mastelotto gets you there lickety-split.)

someone wrote on Genius.com (for whatever that's worth) "Naked Truth was an American band, but they relocated to the UK, so they get included in the list of “stupid Europeans”.

I can't help, either, but I'm amused that you would seek out this band because you like all of the other bands the Milkmen dissed in their song.

(I know that's not the only reason you're curious about this, but I got a kick out of that.)
