giving TP credit where credit is due…REM

Was listening to an interview with an author who did a recent book on REM… it was soon obvious I had been way ahead of the curve on them.

Why was I ahead of the curve on them? April ‘82 review of their Hib Tone single in ‘American underground’. (I coulda sworn it was earlier than that). I wanted to HEAR them but alas lived in a small town. I’m convinced TP had the earliest national mention.

How did I finally hear them for the first time? Flexidisc of ‘wolves lower’ in TP80.

(Speaking of Athens bands, TP talked me into buying a copy of Pylon’s “crazy” single with the glittery fish on the cover, unheard, when I did visit a big city record store)

Feel free to add your similar stories praising TP….

I've been dipping into TP reviews for my most recent radio shows. Apart from artists I learned about from reading TP reviews in the past, last couple weeks I've been dropping into "Reviews" on this here site, finding interesting things, and getting albums. I, and my listeners, thank you, citizens of TP-land.

The "reviews" section continues to be invaluable - I just used it to navigate my way through Japan's back catalog for the first time ever.

Me too, Fab! "Most recent" being, oh, say, in the past fifteen years or so.
