Horrible news
November 01, 2024 11:04PM
Per Michael Toland's Facebook page, his wife passed away today from a sudden heart attack at age 47.

I've never met the man and we could pass each other on the street without a hint of recognition, but after many shared years on this forum I consider him a beloved friend. Such is the power of internet community. This is devastating news.

Not sure if this link will work for everyone, but here's his post with the details: [www.facebook.com]

Please keep Michael and his family in your thoughts. He's one of the good ones.

So sorry to hear this, I know the pain of such a medical event at that tender age, for her to be taken away like that is a tragedy. I have enjoyed Michael's stories about the alternative music scene from the late 70's and onward here on the forums, it's one of the reasons I read and post here, to live vicariously a little through your experiences.

RIP to a lovely lady. My best wishes go out to you Michael.

So sorry to hear this. Losing one's partner like that is devastating. I know it's not much but the TP community is thinking of you.

Yes— we may just be a relatively small community of music obsessives, but we are a community none the less. So sorry for your loss Michael.

This is awful news. Is anyone here friends with him off-line?

This is terrible news. Michael is a real mensch, and the loss will be tremendous. I can't even begin to imagine the cosmic gut-punch he's reeling from right now.

Ouch. Mr Toland has been an invaluable voice of the fertile Austin TX scene, and also seems like a very cool dude. I actually have a couple friends who also became widowers at a young age. It was horrible, but they did get through it. I really feel for you, brother.

I am so sorry for your loss. Holding your family in love and light during this difficult time.

Thank you all for your kind words. It's the love coming from folks like you that are helping us through this. The folks at my day job have bent over backwards to help me, the Austin theater community of which Liegh was a part has been extremely kind and thoughtful, and the folks at the middle school at which she taught have also shown much love. My son and I are very fortunately to have a much larger circle of supportive friends and family than we expected.

I will likely not be posting for a while, while we navigate the challenges of this difficult time. (I just love having to deal with all the practical things, starting less than an hour after my wife's death.) But I appreciate you all and thank you. Your support means a lot.

Heartfelt condolences. As we say in Judaism, may her memory be a blessing for all those who knew or were influenced by her life.

That's something to take away from this. I've met only two people on this board face-to-face; Michael isn't one of them. Yet all of you are amazingly valuable to me. More than just a great place to talk about and learn about cool music, this is where I come to hang with great friends. Thank you all for that.
