Psycho-Americana

Just did a fill-in show on my WFMU channel that is festooned - FESTOONED, I tell ya! - with TP bands:

[wfmu.org]

The concept was: applying to the "Americana" format what The Cramps did to rockabilly. That is to say, the "psycho-" version of not just rockabilly, but roots music in general. Thing is, I don't know if I've ever actually listened to any Americana shows/stations, so not totally sure what it means. E.g.: I featured a number of Slash Records artists, but not The Blasters. Wasn't sure if they were real "Americana" or "psycho-." (Or both?)

When I saw your description, I thought to myself ‘wonder if he played the Flesh Eaters’?

YOU DID NOT DISAPPOINT, MR FAB!! Nice show—

Bit of a missed opportunity. If you're including the Beasts of Bourbon you could've followed They're Hanging Me Tonight with The Day Marty Robbins Died.
Truly excellent stuff here nonetheless. Listening now.

You know what, Aitch - that’s pretty brilliant. I might have to steal that.

I love it! I've never yet been disappointed by Barrence Whitfield! If something like this comes up again, I suggest the band Scroat Belly or another including members of that band, Split Lip Rayfield.

Yes!! I saw Split Lip Rayfield a few times before we moved to Washington. Very cool band.

I was reminded of this thread just now when I was scrolling through old social media posts by a band (Tail Light Rebellion) that's playing tonight (Saturday, 9-28-24) at Duck-Rabbit Brewery (Farmville NC) and saw that they were once on a bill with Split Lip Rayfield! I think they may fit in the "Psycho-Americana" category (and I think they're going to be a lot of fun!). [Disclosure: I am associated with Duck-Rabbit Brewery].

Right. Look for it on the United Artists subsidiary label, Con Artists.
