R.I.P. Charles R. Cross

Editor of Seattle music 'zine The Rocket for fifteen years, and author of the Kurt Cobain biography Heavier Than Heaven.

Minor coincidence, but I just bought Pearl Jam's 11/6/00 – Seattle, Washington (the official "bootleg" release) solely on his recommendation and it actually arrived on the day he passed. As much as I respect the band, I was never that taken by their music, so when I saw Charles's article on them in the 2004 edition of The Rolling Stone Album Guide, I was surprised to see him praising it as their best release, the only one he awarded a full five stars. I just finished listening to it this morning and it is indeed worthy of that assessment.

Wasn't The Rocket's entire run just digitalized (digitized?) earlier this year? I do remember that The Rocket was really cool about sending me lots of back copies as long as I sent them a SASE (Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope) and sometimes without - they're good people and they never got too corporate. Thank you, Charles. RIP.
