What are the odds the Oscar people pick the Kate Bush video for his mention in the memorial segment at next year's Oscars?

Zero. Unless it has broad mainstream appeal in America, they'll ignore it. Look at David Bowie - they had a lot of great stuff to pick from (The Man Who Fell to Earth, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, etc.) and all they went with was Zoolander. Most likely it's just Hunger Games and maybe one other where he's younger like Best Picture winner Ordinary People.

Say what you will about the Oscars, I will admit that when it came time to memorialize James Karen, they were the only (mainstream) outlet who took their clip from "Return of the Living Dead".

If only Utah Saints had included a clip of DS in the (original) "Something Good" video like they did with Kate (though the label would probably have had to kick down more $ to include him in said vid).

It doesn't matter. If it's the Oscars memorial reel, they'll be too busy with swooping camera shots of whatever lamebrain they've hired to warble a mawkish song to ever actually show the people supposedly being memorialized on screen.

The only memorial reel worth the time it takes to watch it is TCM's end-of-year effort, and even that one has taken a troubling slide into "moody version of well-known pop hit" for accompaniment over the last few years - something I'd hoped the movie trailer industry would have gotten tired of by now, but no, the infection is spreading into other areas.

A horrible cliche - slow it down and transpose it to a lower (and if applicable minor) key. I usually don’t go to multiplexes anymore but the last time I went, they did that for three trailers in a row. I think one of them was Ridley Scott’s Napoleon movie.
