I have very little familiarity with the world of rock criticism outside of reading it, so I was surprised to hear how cliquish it's been, even extending to Robert Christgau and
The Village Voice. I naively thought there'd be a friendly and mutual respect between them and
Trouser Press. (Or maybe there is and I'm making too much of that podcast's brief discussion about this?) Again, this probably sounds naive, but if everyone involved is passionate about music and willing to go into thankless and unlucrative career paths to champion the artists they care about, you'd think there'd be this understanding that everyone's pretty much on the same side, dedicating a lot of themselves to meet the same commendable goals.
