The Roots with Digable Planets, Arrested Development and/or The Jungle Brothers

The Roots are touring this summer and depending on where you are, they'll probably two opening acts. Here in NYC, it'll be Digable Planets and the Jungle Brothers on Friday, August 23 in Central Park. I've never seen ANY of them live, so will probably catch the Central Park show. Arrested Development will be opening at other shows.

Not knocking the other acts at all, but the JB’s would be my piece de resistance. I’ve been going back to their ‘straight out the jungle’ lp endlessly this spring. God I love that era of NYC hip hop.

I was playing Done by the Forces of Nature over the weekend - what an album. Can't wait to see them live!

This was great, and the format was brilliant. Concert was scheduled to start at 6pm, but when it got to 6:30 and we were still waiting, I wondered how the Roots were going to have two openers without cutting their set short (given Central Park's curfew). What they did was fold both acts into their own set, so that it was one giant three-hour performance with NO breaks, and the Roots backed them on every number. Questlove was visibly spent when he stepped off his drum riser at the very end.

Looks as though this tour was pretty short -- only eight cities total, mostly east of the Mississippi -- and it appears Digable Planets already has dropped out.
