I remember one friend of my wife's, when she was in graduate school. Among other things, the guy was a DJ at their college radio station. At the mention of Nirvana, he gushed, "Oh my god, I love Nirvana! I can't wait till they're not popular anymore, so I can play them on my show again."

Strange that Daft Punk isn't considered "too popular," as they have about 7 billion views on Spotify, the same as Led Zeppelin and Madonna.

They may be considered 'anchor' artists. Established acts that are considered building blocks for college radio. That's how she can play the Cure, Talking Heads, etc... I think her rule of thumb if the act is in the radio database, then she can play it until she can't (like what happened with Alex G).
