Re: OMD Tour Dates

OMD North American tour dates for this Fall. Will it be their last tour? Who knows? They've hinted that Bauhaus Staircase might be their last album, but haven't really said anything about retiring from touring. And pretty much every musician besides Captain Beefheart who's ever claimed to be retiring from music has played the JUST KIDDING card once they realized they'd like that money they said they'd be leaving on the table after all. So any hints of finality from a musician gets a big grain of salt.

Looks like the openers will be Walt Disco. I checked out their stuff and while I don't hate it - kind of like the Scissor Sisters if they'd had a bigger Bowie fixation - it's not enough to nudge me closer to pulling the trigger on dragging my decrepit ass up to Chicago for a weekend. But the Chicago date IS a Saturday, so I can't rule it out completely.

Going to the last OMD tour in Atlanta [2018] my wife said up front, this is the last time I'll want to see OMD, but after the show she remembered why she goes in the first place. The band is like the component parts of her husband's psyche distilled into band form. Plus Andy gives 110%. OMD is one of my four fave bands [see also Simple Minds, Ultravox/John Foxx, JAPAN] and they are still active but I think I'll pass this time. Nearest show is ATL again, but we're having a 3 week vacation in Europe/UK in less than 2 months, which will eat up most of my PTO. Who knows how much if any I'll have by October. Plus, the last album was pretty tepid. I've seen five OMD shows. Isn't that enough?

For further rumination on the Fresh New Sound of Yesterday®

Yeah, I saw 'em 7 or 8 years ago and it was fun, but I'm not feeling compelled to go again. Plus, the venue where they're playing in Portland has the worst sound system in town and the shows that actually sound halfway decent are the exception rather than the rule. But hell, maybe I'll win some tix from the record store!

What Rhett said goes for me too. I'm just moderately interested. I saw OMD in Denver, a year or two before we moved to Washington. Good show, but not great. Plus, the Moore Theatre is not high on my list of favorite venues in Seattle. (If you can't get good floor seats, then you're consigning yourself to shitty sound quality. My wife has walked out of two shows at the Moore -- bands she asked me to get tickets to -- just because she got sick & tired of being up in the balcony, enveloped in the plodding thud.)

Still, lest I forget (because I'm prone to doing so), thank you, Reno, for sharing the tour dates.

With the lukewarm reception to the OMD tour, maybe consider Nation of Language? They're are touring this spring focusing mainly on the east and middle (I guess the west will be covered in the fall). St. Louis and Atlanta are covered so no complaining about driving. For those that miss the 'vintage' OMD, these guys are the real deal. I'm going with my daughter, so I won't stand out as a 'trouser press' guy.
