freak out playlist 2/8

I tried to get something played for both Mojo Nixon and Wayne Kramer but the radio database didn't have anything for either. So the best she could do was play 'Punk Rock Girl' but she mentioned them on air so that's something.

Listen on Thursdays 12PM-2PM EST [wpts.pitt.edu]

Feeble Little Horse - Freak
Blood Orange - I Wanna C U
The Drums - Blood Under My Bed

Jay Som - Tenderness
Tally Hall - Greener
Love Love Love - Pere Ubu
The Dead Milkmen - Punk Rock Girl
Thundercat - Black Qualls (featuring Steve Lacy)

Saint Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart
DEVO - Uncontrollable Urge (live)
Gary Numan - Down In the Park (live)
Koo Koo - I Like Cake

The Modern Lovers - Dignified and Old
Drugdealer - Suddenly (featuring Weyes Blood)
Not Drowning, Waving - Spark
Of Montreal - Peace To All Freaks

Love - Alone Again, Or

Love Jones - Central Avenue
The Dictators - Science Gone Too Far

Wolf Alice - Don't Delete the Kisses
The Aquabats - Hot Summer Nights

Love this song, so much. Nothing else the band did meant that much to me, but this one is impeccable.

I agree but the Proof soundtrack by them is really good.

Cool to see two of the best tracks from URGH making an appearance, as well as my favorite Wire song.

If you don’t have Mojo Nixon than your radio could use some fixin’!
They can only play from a “database”? No turntables, CD players, tape decks, to bring up and play your own recordings? (Or plug in your own laptop?)

Oh she can use other forms of media, except Spotify. She has a very small collection of CDs. I provided her 14 CDs worth of music so that was my URGH* you heard.

*I like those songs but I have to give "Model Worker" the nod as the best one on the album.

Can she play music off Bandcamp? Several MC5 albums are up there.

Isn't this by The Damned? Or, am I thinking of something else?

I think the Damned covered it. But def originally by Arthur Lee & Co.

The Love original recording of "Alone Again Or" is one of the greatest songs ever recorded,
[www.youtube.com]
and it's managed to stand up to a wide array of cover styles:

UFO appear to have been the first people to cover it, in 1977:

The Damned covered it in 1987.

Former disco dolly/musical theater star/Andrew Lloyd Webber squeeze toy Sarah Brightman(!) covered it in 1990:

The Boo Radleys shoegazed it up in the early 90s:

The Oblivians scuzzed it up around the same time:

Calexico were naturals to cover it:

Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs included it on the 1960s edition of their Under the Covers series:

And it looks like it got one of those long-distance lockdown collaborations that were all the rage in 2020, featuring Love co-founder Johnny Echols and members of Baby Lemonade, who were the backing band in the final version of Love with Echols and Arthur Lee in the last few years of Lee's life:
