I just got Dave Thompson's Essential Listening Guide for Alternative Rock. I haven't really had a chance to form an opinion about it but I noticed in the acknowledgements - Thompson thanks the Trouser Press but listed the editor as Ira Levin. Is that why Mr. Levin's output stopped after "The Boys From Brazil" in 1976? Coincidentally, that is when Thompson says rock music changed due to Metal Machine Music and Horses coming out as well as the appearance of the Sex Pistols. Ira heard Lou, changed profession and his last name and the rest is history!

I suppose constantly being assumed to be the leader of Yo La Tengo is preferable to always being assumed to be your brother's wife, as Ira Gershwin had to contend with - despite the fact that no one could ever point to a single prominent female Ira.

And all this time I thought Ira Hayes was the football coach at Ohio State. Or was that Woody Guthrie?

As for Ira Robbins, while the Trouser Press Guide is nice and all, I still think his best work was EVEN COWGIRLS GET THE BLUES and STILL LIFE WITH WOODPECKER.
