The excellent title track from the forthcoming OMD album Bauhaus Staircase. This should get your weekend off to a very pleasing start.

New Slowdive next week, new OMD in October... If Kevin Shields and Robert Smith would pull their thumbs out of their butts and finally deliver the albums they've been swearing were coming any minute now since the Hoover administration, 2023 could end pretty strong.

Andy McCluskey has hinted that "Bauhaus Staircase" will be OMD's swan song. I'll believe that when I see it. These musician dudes can't tear themselves away from it. The modern albums have been a move in the right direction with a somewhat shaky start to "History Of Modern" and quick consolidation to the accomplishments of "English Electric" and "Punishment Of Luxury." Hopefully the new one will be as good as the last one. The first verse of the title track, which I bought on iTunes, had him singing that he wanted to “kick down fascist art,” so it’s appreciated that he’s been paying attention all along. I’d swear that Mellotron samples followed that lyric but the third verse was even better with shoutouts to Pere Ubu’s utterly classic debut album getting particularly emphasized as a dubbed out hook! It was at this point that a wide smile spread across your normally reticent Monk’s puss. There's a song on the new one about Veruschka, which I am also interested in hearing what that's all about.

Not counting your show (yet), I can't begin to count how many times I have heard it back-to-back with the new Nation of Language material. (Which probably won't help with people mentioning how much they sound like OMD.)

A listener recently suggested a "Kissin' Cousins" theme, in which I play songs/artists that sound a lot like each other back to back.

I tried to develop a couple of blocks, and soon realized it just made for a boring show. Two hours with half as much variety.

Have you ever done bands that share members but sound nothing alike? You could have a swell little block featuring Album-era PiL, the Sex Pistols, Cream, Yellow Magic Orchestra and Frank Zappa.

Johnny Marr alone has been a member of multiple bands that sound nothing at all like each other - the Smiths, Electronic, the The and Modest Mouse.

Magazine and the Bad Seeds come to mind as providing some good fodder for this.

I've done that once or twice, when I'm planning a birthday tribute to a musician whose work includes several bands of quality & distinction. Gary Tibbs comes to mind (Adam & the Ants, Roxy Music, The Vibrators, Code Blue).

The band just announced physical copies in 3 formats of their new single.

This is the first time that they've had three different formats [in addition to DL] since their reformation.
