Singer/guitarist for Pitchfork, Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes.

I see that Pitchfork and Hot Snakes both have entries on this site, but Drive Like Jehu seem to have been lost in the shuffle somehow.

DLJ is included in the Rocket From the Crypt entry.

That sucks. I saw them and Hot Snakes at Fun Fun Fun Fest years ago. (Same fest? I don’t think so, but can’t remember for sure.) DLJ was a powerful wall of sound; the Snakes were like the garage rock version of same. Dude had a vision and knew how to execute it.

Ah! I was sure that they were covered on this site somewhere and was surprised when I couldn't find them. Didn't occur to me to check under RFTC.

I just "discovered" Hot Snakes when their reissued albums, plus their newest one, arrived at KSER. Great stuff! Rest in peace, Rick, and thanks.

Anyone know what’s the deal with
Rocket From the Crypt vs Rocket From the Tombs? I can never remember which band is which. Was one named in tribute to/rip-off of the other band? Or do both bands share a common origin unknown to me (like breno’s recent fascinating discovery of where the Revillo’s got their name)?

RFTC was named in honor of RFTT; no commonalities.
RFTT = Cleveland; RFTC = Cali.

I never got the opportunity to see DLJ live, but Yank Crime is one of the most meaningful albums from the 90s for me. Hot Snakes were amazing too and I did see them 3 or 4 times. And damn, 55 is way too early, sez this here 55-year-old.

RIP, Rick - you will be missed, but thanks for what you left behind.

Yank Crime is the greatest punk guitar album in history. If there's a heavier song than Here Comes the Rome Plows, I am yet to hear it. That first Jehu album and the Hand over First single aint too shabby either. I immediately ordered a Jehu tee shirt on hearing of the great Froberg's passing. Brilliant musician.

It's a nosepail sighting! How I enjoy these Halley's Comet-like reappearances every 5 years or so!

And yes, I'd include Yank Crime on a list of the best guitar albums as well. I think I could identify some heavier songs out there in the ether, but not many of them grab me like "Rome Plows" or "Luau" or "Do You Compute."
