RIP Scott Schinder

I’m sure we’ve all read Scott’s work a-plenty. Way too young to lose him. He contributed to all six editions of the Trouser Press Record Guide.

As he lived in Austin and we both wrote for the Austin Chronicle, I met Scott a few times, usually during SXSW. I was intimidated when introduced to him, since I’d read so much of his work in the Guides, but he couldn’t have been nicer. I knew he was sick, but as noted in the article, he didn’t talk about it. I’m really sorry to hear this.

Thanks for posting this, Michael, and yeah, for all of his bylines, Scott could not have been more approachable or nicer human.

And his Alt-Rock-A-Rama book from ‘96 was a really entertaining read, rounding up a who’s who of rock scribes, artists, lotsa lists (before they were a means of cheap and easy ‘content’) and other fun arcana (…Damian Lovelock’s 10 favorite Australian records, Paul K’s favorite crime writers, J Mascis’ recipe for toasted cheese sandwiches.…).

The music world, sadly, has lost another good one way too young.

Much gratitude to Scott for his many contributions to the TP oeuvre.
And to Dan Matovina, RIP, who wrote about Badfinger in issue 38 and went on to author a book about them.
