Congratulations, Kate!

Now it simply remains to be seen whether she'll travel across the ocean to accept the award in person. Maybe if she can book sea passage.

I’m not sure I buy that air flight excuse. She only did just one tour around the UK before retiring from drive-able shows too.

One of her crew members got killed on her one and only tour. I don't find it too much of a stretch that the death of an employee & friend put a 20-year-old girl off the notion of touring after that. I know if I were barely out of my teens and someone died so I could sing & dance, I'd likely nope out of taking up that responsibility ever again, especially if I managed to be pretty damn successful without ever putting myself in that position again anyway.

Add an inner ear issue that makes flying painful atop an enterprise that got someone killed and it becomes pretty understandable why she was perfectly happy to forego touring.

Anyhow, who knows if she'd have come up with The Dreaming or Hounds of Love if she'd spent months on end in the early 80s hauling her ass to Scranton and Duluth? Thank God she's a homebody, I say.

All well and good, I guess, but HOLY SPIT [DC Comics euphemism from 1970] …!!! LINK WRAY is finally in as an influence. Ya think? Now the ghost of Dick Dale is jealous!

They accommodated Todd Rundgren and had him do his performance remotely. (He was actually in Ohio, a few hours from the venue, but it was for a show he had already booked for a tour and he didn't want to cancel it just to appear at the induction ceremony.) I don't know what the time difference would be, but if it's not too inconvenient, I'd extend that option to Kate Bush too.

Are you sure about that? I thought Rundgren famously refused to have anything to do with his induction, as he thinks the entire institution is stupid and corrupt. Patti Smith's induction speech for him was pre-recorded and thus delivered remotely, but other than maybe making disparaging remarks on stage about it wherever he was performing that night, I'm pretty sure Todd himself did his best to ignore the whole thing.

I double-checked and looks like I got it backwards - it was Rundgren who offered to do something remotely, but I guess he was turned down because there doesn't seem to be any footage of that at the ceremony, at least on YouTube.

"I don’t know. It’s been up and down and in and out with them. My relationship with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, quite obviously, it’s not copacetic...I have offered to do something live for them from my venue. I will stop my show and acknowledge the award and mostly acknowledge my fans, because it’s for them."
