R.I.P. Burt Bacharach

Songwriter for the Stranglers, among others. I take it he wrote a few memorable songs over the years.

As I said on these here (virtual) pages a few years ago:

The man seemingly never used a standard song form, no 12 bar blues, etc. He always threw in extra beats, shifted time signatures, and yet he's "easy listening."
"I Say A Little Prayer" is as complex as a Yessong, but it comes off like a soulful hand-clapper.

I listened to Dionne Warwick singing "Promises, Promises" earlier today, as I'd never heard it. That is one tricky song. Kudos to Ms. Warwick for handling like it was nuthin'.

A wonderful composer. I remember that my mother thought he was a real fox when I was growing up. RIP.

His very first movie soundtrack was "The Swimmer" and I think his very last movie soundtrack was "The Informant!" Two movies that coincidentally are about characters with 'issues.'

Not to mention his theme song for The Blob!

Yes, agree with all… he had a knack for making complex structures sound carefree. You kinda know a Bacharach composition when you hear one. For example, I’m not positive he wrote “do you know the way to San Jose” without looking… but I’ll bet he did.

I was right!

But I’ve got to say I found that album he did with Elvis Costello to be too much. Too heart wrenching, too over emoting, too over the top. Some folks love it. I just couldn’t take it, I tell ya…
I just….couldn’t… TAKE IT!!!!
