There's not much information here, but it seems that Pavement will be the subjects of a jukebox musical, performed for two nights in New York next month, for everyone who could hear showtunes in "Spit on a Stranger" and "Range Life": [ci.ovationtix.com].

Interesting. Maybe a weird play on Grease Summer Lovin' and Summer Babe! That is the kind of thing that if I lived nearby I would for certain check it out, just for the pure insanity of it.

Just …make …them …stop! I hate musicals, but "jukebox musicals" are the pornography of theater.

And suddenly, I have a vision in my head of a Shaggs musical.

Not that I'm thinking of developing one, but sheesh, if it existed, I might go and see it. Think about it: how would they find three musicians who could act well and play instruments and sing with just the right degree of incompetence?

I realize this is most likely a satire on jukebox musicals, but that doesn't make it any less a terrible idea.

OMG, thanks Fab! That Shaggs musical (obviously) went completely under my radar. Now that I know about it, I'm actually sorry I missed it.

"One important question the creators had to contend with was: how do you write a musical about characters who are not musical? How do you write tunes for the tone deaf?" That's a way better title than Songs for the Deaf, IMO. Queens of the Stone Age were close, but no cigar.

I think a better name for this thread, in keeping with current trends, would’ve been “R.I.P. Pavement”

So it sounds like the entire thing was a load of crap but no one can figure out if it was genuinely terrible on purpose or backed into being genuinely terrible while trying to only be ironically terrible. In other words, a perfect Pavement musical.
