Franz Ferdinand in Denver

Franz Ferdinand in Denver
August 23, 2022 07:39AM
When one of my oldest, best friends found out I would be in Colorado for a short holiday, he did the smart thing: he scoped out a concert during my stay and got two tickets. In this case, it was for one of his favorite acts, Franz Ferdinand.

Only Alex Kapranos and bassist Bob Hardy still are on board from the original lineup. But this version of the band was in top, tight form, playing with a lot of energy and clearly having a good time. Alex told the crowd repeatedly how glad he is to be touring again, after the pandemic kept them home. I don't know if it was sold out, but from where we stood, the Ogden Theatre looked pretty packed. Everybody was in the mood to dance and sing along. (One of the sweatiest shows I've been to, for sure.)

SETLIST:
The Dark of the Matinée
Right Action
Walk Away
Curious
Darts of Pleasure
Do You Want To
Evil Eye
Billy Goodbye
The Fallen
No You Girls
Love Illumination
Michael
Take Me Out
Always Ascending
Outsiders

ENCORE:
Jacqueline
Ulysses
This Fire

Matthew Dear opened the show with a DJ set. Not usually my taste in live music, but I liked his stuff. His set had a real flow to it, and he sings in a pretty good baritone.
