Any bands to be supporting to be during this time? Drop their Bandcamp or/and FB pages so we can support them. I know about some of the classical/avant garde, but that's (mostly) outside TP coverage area.

The Ukrainians!

Peter Solowka, one of the members of the popular '80s/'90s British combo The Wedding Present, is of Ukrainian descent, and picked up on the music from his father. He hooked up with musicians from the old country to play Ukrainian folk music, but then threw in some covers relevant to his present condition as a rocker living in the UK:

"Pisni Iz The Smiths (Songs Of The Smiths)" ep from 1992, Sex Pistols and Velvet Underground covers on a 1993 live album, a 1996 Kraftwerk cover commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster ("Radioactivity"), and two Pistols covers from a 2002 single. They also have am EP of Prince covers that I haven't found a copy of yet.

And it is some crazy stuff. No wimpy hippie folk music here, thanks to the occasional addition of some of Solowka's old Wedding Present buddies injecting some rock'n'roll energy into the mandolin-and-fiddle based tunes. By the early '90s, Solowka had quit the Wedding Present to make the Ukrainians his full-time gig.

I've been buying great stuff for the last few years from КАДРИЛЬ on Bandcamp. They used the contact form on my blog to reach me and [luckily] I had the time to sample that morning and listened for 30 seconds before buying. I have their first two albums and they are recommended for Post-Punk in the Chameleons vein. The band are Kiev-based and man, I'd hate to be in their shoes right now. As soon as this rotten war started I thought of them.

Big Stir Records! I did not know this...

"Big Stir Records was co-founded by our CEO and guiding light Christina Bulbenko, a first-generation Ukrainian American who was raised in Detroit speaking the language and whose family has deep cultural ties to their heritage. We don't believe one need be directly linked to tragic events to feel empathy for those who are suffering, but the news of the day is perhaps especially heartbreaking for us."

Big Stir does a lot of power pop records; they have a fan in the Game Theory / Loud Family group who is always taking about their stuff. Didn't know about this connection.

I just had this compilation show up on my Bandcamp page: [syfrecords.bandcamp.com].

The title translates to "Common cause: A Compilation for Ukraine" and the description by the originators (a Polish label) could not be clearer (see below track list).

CMD094 makes this shoegazy fuzzy ambient music. I highly recommend. He has made some of my favorite music since he started. He has his cult following. CMD094 - 1992
