Slicing Up Eyeballs circa 2022 - anniversaries & birthdays only

When did Slicing Up Eyeballs turn into a "this day in 'alternative'"? I don't want more daily reminders of how old I'm getting - daily reminders of which album is 30 years old today, and which album turns 40 today, etc. I *KNOW* those albums are 30 and 40 and 50 today-!

I am dead sick of 30/40/50 anniversaries of EVERYTHING. I can't play that game on PPM otherwise it would be completely moribund [instead of mostly…].

Unlike at least one other DJ whom I know (not on this board), when I include birthdays on 20FR, it's only birthdays on that day, and only for living musicians (except for my annual Bowie tribute). Some listeners might see that as a reminder that they're getting old (or at least that their favorite musicians are), but I don't think it's overboard.


And I've rarely observed anniversaries of famous albums. (I think the last time I did that was when I was guest host on Poptopia Parkway on June 1st. Lon Palmer certainly would've observed the anniversary of Sgt. Pepper ... and I was able to tie in the fact that Bowie's debut album was released on the same day.)

Yup. Hate the constant reminders of what’s 40 years old this week, etc etc.

I admit sometimes I fall prey to pondering the passage of time….but then I think how insignificant the 13th vs the 14th century is to me in my life.

Does any of this REALLY matter in the big picture, Bip?!?

I'm OK with the reminders if it's connected with some news, such as a tour celebrating the anniversary, or a re-release. Otherwise, I don't see the point.
