new Spotify playlist
September 23, 2021 01:57PM
I have made a new Spotify playlist: [open.spotify.com]. Lots of vibes, often mellow and instrumental, across classical, jazz, pop, ambient, movie soundtracks, African music. I picture it as an imaginary radio show airing around 1 AM.

A track from Marc Johnson's Overpass - nice! I've come to really love solo double bass records over the last few years.

ECM has put out some extremely good solo bass albums, especially Barre Phillips.

I love those Barre Phillips albums. I would also highly recommend recordings by Barry Guy and by Peter Kowald. This isn't the sort of music I expect to talk about at Trouser Press, but I suppose it makes no difference to open ears!

It was Barre Phillips' End to End that turned me on solo bass records, in fact.

Jorge Roeder put out a great one this year called El Suelo Mio.

Damn you guys. I am a sucker for a good rabbit hole, and this type of music (Barre Philips, etc) is a right up my blind-spot alley.

Barre’s 1978 ‘three day moon’ (Newly discovered by me) is drawing me in. Eno-seque?

Stevee, it was Photek’s ‘form and function’ I was thinking of when listening to your ep. Cool to see this artist on your list!

Photek's first 2 albums and early singles are definitely an inspiration. I entered his name into Spotify a few weeks ago and learned that he's now composing movie and TV scores.

I checked out your playlist—what a vibe! I love the mix of genres; it's like a musical journey. I got it bookmarked for those late-night chill sessions. You should promote your music (buy Spotify plays here for it). Thanks for curating such a gem!
