Actor, writer, director, musician, legend. Created a genre that was laughed off at its peak but is now taken seriously and respected - definitely a cinematic equivalent of the musicians this site reveres.
Sweet Sweetback's Badaaaasss Song (I have no idea if that's the right number of a's and s's) is a singular experience. He not only essentially invented a genre, but his film remained an outsider to it - there's no other black action movie (that I've seen) like it. And the soundtrack, which he composed (and was performed by a nascent Earth Wind & Fire) is great. RIP.
