Re: The 27 Club ... see it live!

I recently was confronted on social media with an ad for a new attraction at one of the Las Vegas casinos. (I don't remember which one -- not that I think anyone here is going to be eager to find out.) It's a "tribute" performance by singers/musicians portraying six of the most famous artists in the so-called "27 club":

Robert Johnson
Janis Joplin
Jimi Hendrix
Jim Morrison
Kurt Cobain
Amy Winehouse

Another Vegas attraction that I'm just going to have to force myself to miss.

Man I took a look on Wikipedia, good lord there is a list several scrolls long! Brian Jones and Chris Bell, I don't think those two would be a big draw in Vegas. Typically I have had a disdain for tributes but they can be fun after a few drinks. On the fourth of July I saw two bands playing nothing but big hair metal and 80's and 90's rock tunes. It was a hoot because they kept changing costumes, so Slash might play on GnR song but stay on for Talk Dirty to Me. The great thing was - I was actually at an outside show with a packed crowd - people were hyped let me tell you. If the Amy one is talented I would pay to see that, never came any where close to seeing her while she was alive.

What absolutely CREEPS me out is this ‘hologram’ concert concept. A coworker showed me video of the Roy Orbison hologram concert he attended. It just freaks me out and not in a good way. And the technology will only get better.

They could make a supergroup of Kurt Cobain on guitar, Keith moon on drums, Sid vicious on bass and Jim Morrison singing. They’d find studio hacks who can perfectly copy their sounds and styles. They could write all new songs, release an album and tour to support it.

With a few photographs and old tape recordings they could have my dead grandmothers hologram join us for thanksgiving.

FREAKS ME OUT

The holograms are creepy af, but if someone could mimic the sound of Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Keith Moon playing together and write new songs in that style, I'd love to hear it (although it would probably be awful)!

There's already a deepfake hip-hop YouTube channel making "new" 2Pac songs.

I hear you! AI will make this inevitable…and sooner that you'd care to think! That Orbison thing is just wrong on every level! The avarice of his family must be off the charts to allow for that abomination.
