Depends on what you want out of it. I'd argue (as I did in a review on the Big Takeover website) that it's more in line with the improvisational work Kim Salmon's been doing the past few years than "Swampland," though there are a couple of tracks that recall that era. It's not as batshit as the Surrealists album he put out last year, but it's not Blood Red River.

I interviewed Salmon a few years ago when they were embarking on their first American tour (I found out only after we finished our 90-minute conversation that he'd called me after he got off work, and it was 1 a.m. in Australia - what a guy), and he was pretty adamant that he didn't want to just repeat what the band had done before. Plus he said he just wrote songs, and which project they ended up in depended more on timing than intent.

I dig it, but I also wasn't surprised by the way it sounds. If you pick it up (or stream it or whatever), give it a few spins before forming an opinion - it'll draw you into its world, I think.
