I think I could find enough to fill a sequel -- especially if I use a few high-profile selections (such as "Smoke on the Water").

The Del Fuegos get mentioned twice - I'd've never have called that.

Cool set!

So, a question since I'm not familiar with many of these songs. In every instance is the band or musician named, or is a song referenced? Cuz if it's only the musician band, then referencing a song might be a cool idea for a set. For example, BOC's "Dominance and Submission" references "The Locomotion."

In every instance, one or more bands/artists are mentioned in the lyrics. But songs that reference other songs would be a cool concept too! Any other recommendations?

Jimmy Eat World’s “authority song” is not a cover but actually a song about playing mellencamp’s ‘authority song’ on the jukebox.

Same song says “the DJ never has it, JMC ‘automatic’”.

Sparks - "When Do I Get To Sing 'My Way'?"
The Knack - "Lil' Cal's Big Mistake"
The Freshies - "I Can't Get Bouncing Babies By the Teardrop Explodes"
Dead Milkmen - "Punk Rock Girl" (again)
Pete Townshend - "Cats in the Cupboard"

Porcupine Tree - "Pure Narcotic" (Radiohead - "The Bends")
The Pogues - "Fairy Tale of New York" ("Galway Bay")

And the ultimate "quote other songs" song:
Built to Spill - "You Were Right" ("Dust in the Wind, " "Another Brick in the Wall," "Manic Depression," etc)

BTW, this is harder than I thought. Not many are coming to mind off the top of my head.

Hey! - I think I recommended the Hoodoo Gurus. However, the Too Much Joy song "Long Haired Guys From England" does not reference the Cult but Midnight Oil ("except he's bald and from Australia, it's still the same concept"). When they played this live, they would usually insert whatever the hot band from England was at that time.

"All the girls in this here bar
Will treat you like you're a star
Don't get excited, it's just luck
They'll ignore you if the guy from The Cult shows up."

Now do a show featuring everyone name-dropped in "Life Is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me)."

Which I didn't know til just now was co-written by Norman Dolph, better known to fans of The Velvet Underground and Nico as "producer Andy Warhol."
