That was quite a show. A whole lot of new bands to check out, with Antonioni, Push/Button/Press, Jane Weaver, Still Corners, and Citizen among the highlights.

I can't be the only one confusing Mush with Muzz, which I believe you've played a few times recently. And I'm really surprised to hear some Danny Elfman that sounds like the former Oingo Boingo frontman more than the film score specialist.

Funny you should mention Muzz - I actually passed on their new single back in May. It just didn’t “do it” for me...the hazard of gate-keeping I suppose.

Re. Danny Elfman - it really sounds like he’s back in his Boingo element based on the two tracks he’s put out so far. I hope it’s a harbinger of things to come...

801, thanks for including Push/Button/Press. The singer/guitarist/songwriter is a friend of mine. The band has been kicking around for a long time and they recently (last 4 years or so) started getting some attention, including a recording deal. I'm going to let him know you played the song on your show. For any others interested in their music, the new album is available on Bandcamp.

A few other observations:

Deathray Davies - It was a decent enough song, but I was expecting something a little more...bold? The band has "Deathray" in their name, after all

Holy Figures - I like it! "Heavy" music has to hit the right spot for me to enjoy it, and this does!

The Zen Arcade - Catchy as heck!

My pleasure, zoo - I definitely want to get another track of theirs slotted for next week’s show. Really digging the new album...

Reading up, I found out that the Zen Arcade are not a Hüsker Dü cover band, but a reincarnation of Ireland's The Strypes, a band that evolved from classical blues rock to pure 1982 new wave in the space of three albums issued in quick succession between 2013 and 2017. They were incredibly young when they released their first album - 17 or so. I definitely like that first single as well. Looks like a name to watch.

Mush actually lost one of their bandmates a few months ago (RIP) - they're definitely in the post-The Fall territory alongside bands like Shame, Idles, Sleaford-Mods, Dry Cleaning, etc. It's one of the 2021 debuts I'm looking forward to hearing.

I’m still in shock over the guitarist’s sudden passing late last year. So tragic...the band bills themselves as a trio now so I’m not sure if they’re going to get someone to take his place. The dual guitar interplay is such a joy to listen to.

BTW, their debut (3D Routine) came out early last year - this new one (Lines Redacted) is their second album after putting out a couple of EPs...
