Dry Cleaning are my favorite new band of the last couple years, and I'm so excited they've signed with 4AD and have an album coming out soon. "Scratchcard Lanyard" is pretty great. I do worry that their schtick (assembling dada lyrics from random lines in online comments sections and setting them to kickass post-punk) might not have the longest legs in the world - it's already getting overly familiar after two EPs, but so far it's cool. They seem like they'll be smart enough to get out of any corner they might paint themselves into.

One of my other favorite new bands of the last couple years, Shame, also has a new album coming out after the new year. 2021 is looking promising.

I saw Shame at SXSW a couple of years ago. It was an afternoon show, free to anyone, not just SXSW attendees. They barely got there on time to set up for their set, and they just ripped. Best rock & roll show I'd seen in some time. I'm looking forward to the new one as well.

I've been loving Dry Cleaning since just before the first EP was released; the new song may be "more of the same", but I don't think that's a bad thing at all. Check out this March 2020 KEXP session, especially the interview in the middle which goes a long way to show this band may very well be more than just a one-trick pony:

The new Shame track is a total banger for sure. "Alphabet" got me hooked, but "Water In The Well" has reeled me in.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be a massive influx of post-punk bands these days?

801... maybe it’s a cyclical thing? I remember feeling like post-punk was enjoying a resurgence in 2001 when bands like Liars and Erase Eratta were coming out with their debuts.

That combination of abrasive guitar and funk-derived bass & drum always seems like such fertile ground.

Another great wall-to-wall show 801. Hard to pick just a few highlights, but I'll mention Hey Colossus, the Gatefolds, Jesu, Smalltown Tigers and Helen Love, but I could easily have picked five others. And in a more perfect universe, that Teenage Fanclub track would be on heavy rotation on commercial radio.

It certainly was an embarrassment of riches this past week. 5+ hours of music got distilled down to well under 2 hours and every tune was a quality banger.

The feedback from you and others on this board goes a long way toward motivating me to keep doing the show for another week. The degree of disconnection I'm experiencing in lockdown is causing me no end of stress over something I used to have a lot more fun doing which is why I'm glad I made up my mind a long time ago to just be less a personality and more a cipher in order to let the music dominate.

I know my flip little “woe is me” remark came out completely and totally wrong, but I really was just referring to my own robotic bubble of a show. I also know in my heart of hearts you could do InTransition a thousand times better...my weekly mantra for a while has been WWDD: “What Would Delvin Do?”. And every week I get an answer in the form of Twenty Flight Rock that makes me try harder to do better...

I didn't take it as a slight, 801, not even remotely. And you're very kind to say it, but the truth is, no, I couldn't do InTransition better than you do. I couldn't fill two solid hours with all new songs each week, with a one-time-only policy, and end up with such a terrific program week after week.

And the answer to "What would Delvin do?" is manifest week after week: include something by Bowie.
