Another great show, 801. It started a bit slowly, but once it hit the Weather Report (which Michael Toland was right to point out as a highlight), it moved into a higher gear, with great track after great track until the end. Wayside, Suzie True, NewDad, Pinkshift and Tigers Jaw were all great, not to mention the old stalwarts that are Love Tractor and Sharon Van Etten.

I see you didn't attempt to pronounce "Nebelkrahe" and went for an English equivalent. Where's your sense of adventure?

I wish you and all my American friends a successful and peaceful election night. I'll be watching thinks anxiously from up north.

It’s all down to the pacing, Philippe. Every week I’m starting more or less from scratch, so I feel lucky if there’s at least a pair of bangers to kick off each hour and what remains usually takes care of what lies between. This past show had a decent blend of rockers & ballads, but establishing and maintaining momentum was tricky with the first hour...

Meanwhile, my attempts at passably pronouncing “Nebelkrähe” were not deemed airworthy. I think the umlaut threw me off. If you could only hear what gets left on the cutting room floor...

I’m kind of glad to be preempted next week. I really hope something good happens for a change. We can all use a break...

801, I have to admit I dragged my feet listening to your show.... so many unknown artists for a Luddite like me (I’ve usually heard of about two per week).

But I decided to give a show a spin. And then I listened to another show. Then saw I could go back to past shows. As others here already discovered, your show is great!

Not sure how you find your selections, but I’m glad you’re doing the legwork.

I find myself thinking of it as like listening to a college station back in the 80s that introduced me to groups I didn’t know. It’s exciting to feel that motivated by current music again!

I’m glad you’re enjoying the show, Bip. I used to do something similar on WWUH West Hartford back in the 90s, so this was almost a no-brainer for me once I worked up the courage to volunteer at WSLR. Better late than never, even if it did take me 10+ years to do it...

Rest assured, a great majority of the artists I feature every week are as new to me as they are to you and nearly everyone else. Part of my credo is to refrain from “playing it safe”. If I’m not challenged or intrigued, it’s a sure bet listeners won’t be either...

The bulk of what I sift through every week is more or less brought to my attention via what I tend to call “curated listings”. As for the selection process, it’s really just down to keeping an ear open for new songs and artists coming down the pipe that manage to echo the interesting and exciting sounds that turned me on to music in the first place...
