thanks to a generous friend, I am nerding out a big stack of old Trouser Press magazines - one interesting thing in an early 1980 issue - they ask several musicians about their favorite albums of the 1970s - two surprising answers; Robert Fripp picks Joni Mitchell's Blue and Bill Bruford picks John Lennon's Walls & Bridges. In another issue, they ask these two to predict the future of music - Fripp gives a complicated answer while Bruford basically says only a moron would try to guess. Super nerd info, I had no idea that Bruford was kicked out of the band UK for not endorsing their move from jazz-prog-rock to pop-prog. I thought he quit over it. No surprise Holdsworth bailed.
