Stars

The Montreal-based band Stars can be vaguely ridiculous at times, but I still love them. Here is an overview of their twenty-year career:

Nice overview. I really enjoy the Stars when I hear them on XFM or Pandora. "Elevator Love Song" and "Ageless Beauty" have made it on to a few mix tapes I have made over the years. I can't say I have ever listened to one of their albums all the way through though.. You have inspired me to investigate further.

Very nice work. You capture well both what is fascinating and what is sometimes tiring about this band. But overall, everyone of their albums is worthy of the occasional spin.

Well done, Zwirn. I really need to make time to (at least) update my existing reviews ... particularly since at least two of them focus on major artists who have died since I last wrote about them.

I liked the band's first few albums, but I had no idea they were still recording! The Pet Shop Boys' VERY is one of my favorite albums, so I will head to Spotify to check out THE NORTH.

Whatever happened to Le Grand Magistery? I remember their Momus releases as well.

Le Grand Magistery ... there must be a documentary in the works there, but it must have been BIZARRE based on these tidbits. Famously they had huge legal problems with a Momus record and Wendy (né Walter Carlos) that was the back story behind the Stars Forever album:

The art design by Matthew Jacobson was a big piece of the Le Grand Magistery mystique:

He seemed to become of an art design studio than a record label and ran design for Third Man Records (!)

Apparently his family ran a famed burlesque theater and he is making a movie about the history!
