The Replacements' Pleased to Meet Me is getting the same box set treatment as Don't Tell a Soul.

Details.

Sample.

On the fence about this one. This one doesn't have the same controversy over the mix as Soul, so I don't know if I need the rough mixes (which are what will be on the LP). And the outtakes look...unessential. Still, it supposedly has Bob Stinson's final recordings with the band.

Would like to hear a rough mix or two of "Can't Hardly Wait." Westerburg was hungover for the final studio version, so he plays his guitar pretty low-key. Then they added all the horns n stuff, which are ok, they don't really add or detract anything, but would be curious to hear a more RAWkin version.

I've enjoyed all of these box sets so far (consumer tip - if you're on a budget, stream them until the price comes down to about $30, which is how much I got the last two) but Tim may be my favorite partly because it's the best album of the four they've done. My favorite version of "Can't Hardly Wait" (labelled as the "Tim" version) is also on here with a new mix that keeps the raw sound of the rough mix used on Nothing for All - that raw sound is also pretty much the sound of Ed Stasium's new mix for the album proper. Even "Dose of Thunder" and "Lay It Down Clown" are vastly improved - I still would have used them as B-sides instead of putting them on the album, but at least now they'd sound like pretty good B-sides. ("Nowhere Is My Home" and "Can't Hardly Wait" should've been on the album IMHO.)

I'm not really a fan of remixing an album decades after the fact - see the Beatles, the Band, etc. - but there are a few notable exceptions where I not only like what they did but prefer it and this is one of them. (Dead Man's Pop is another.)

Well, the remixed Tim sounds great...but unless I were to do a side-by-side comparison of a previous mix, I don't know that I could tell the difference. Regardless, I'm enjoying listening. Such a great album.
