Ubu's "By Order of Mayor Pawlicki"

Any of you picked up this live album from the 2017 version of the band? It's pretty phenomenal.

I didn't know about this. I saw this tour in 2o16 (I saw them again in 2017 but they were promoting '2o Years in a Montana Missile Silo' on that one). Pretty much the same setlist except we got 'Sentimental Journey' (something I thought would be unplayable but they did it), 'Heaven' and 'Humor Me'. The whole idea about that tour was to play the old songs that they (most likely) will never play again and also to promote the 'Coed Jail' compilation album released for this purpose. To help build excitement for the upcoming tour,in the Ubu manner, it was mentioned that Dave Thomas was going to use the roller* used during the recording of the 'The Modern Dance' album. For some reason I thought that was the 'clink' sound in 'The Modern Dance'. It wasn't (I think that was Thomas hitting a railroad spike with a hammer). When the roller was brought out, it was basically a rattle and I don't think it mattered much to the song (which I don't even remember which one it was now, originally it was used for 'Street Waves' which wasn't played).

Still it was a great show. One never knows what's going to happen with an Ubu show.

I saw this tour as well - their first Texas date in 20 years, and only one since - and they were phenomenal. A Rocket From the Tombs set the first night and a Pere Ubu set the second. I was skeptical of Thomas bringing much energy since he was performing sitting down, but holy cow, did he ever. (Despite puking his guts out three times right before the RFFT show.) I should pick this up.

Yeah, I saw that 2016 tour too and thought it was pretty amazing. I was especially impressed with Michele Temple's bass playing, and it really stands out in the mix on this album.

There's a funny bit on the "We Don't Do Encores" disc where they start with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and then switch into "Heart of Darkness."
