I went to school with this guy who was totally obsessed with Pete Way. He even made a (non-working) replica of his Thunderbird, which weighed a ton.

In hard rock circles Pete Way is revered. Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) admitted that he stole Way's entire bass playing shtick.
