I saw that this morning on The Guardian. I had not seen him since about 20 years ago, but I saw him many times from 1993-99. He is still the most powerful music experience I've ever had! We actually travelled from Orlando to Tampa the next night with even more friends to see him again.

He was a tough old bird. Ego the size of a planet, but he did deliver. When I first saw him, he was my age now: 55. Back then that was even older than Mick Jagger!

The last time he came to Asheville I wanted to go but I just lost track of things and missed it. No big regrets, though. Poor guy, the return of the colon cancer probably wore him down to a nub. But damn, he could play hard! It was like the walls of Jericho coming down when he was on. The first time, I was simply stunned. I could not stop talking about it for a month.
