the worst song of 2019...already!

The Killers' new single "Land of the Free" is a brilliant parody of aging rockers trying to be relevant by being painfully woke and instead coming across brain-dead instead:[www.youtube.com] It's a shame they're apparently sincere and have no idea that this sounds like a ridiculous Springsteen parody. Sharon van Etten's recent singles "Seventeen" and "Comeback Kid" don't sound like earlier, much better Killers songs like "Read My Mind" and "When We Were Young," but they aim for a similar mix of New Wave and '80s arena rock melodrama and hit the mark: [www.youtube.com] and [www.youtube.com]

I don't have a problem with that Killers song. Doesn't mean I like it, but I don't like much of their work (or Springsteen's for that matter, whether they sound like him or not). It's the sincerity of that song which makes it OK for me. Is it heavy handed and overwrought? Of course, but hasn't that been the Killers' MO for a while now?

As for Sharon van Etten...wow. Those are some good songs. I've never heard her music, possibly haven't heard of her period but I can't say for sure. I'll be sure to check out her new album when it comes out later this week. Thanks for sharing!
