Steve Albini won a poker tournament: [www.spin.com]! And also gave some publicity to the Belgian punk band Cocaine Piss, whom Spin mentioned in this article!

And .. umm ... any news on what Urge Overkill are up to these days?

Albini made much better and more influential music as a singer/guitarist and producer than Urge Overkill, who I liked at the time but have long been in my mental "What The Hell Happened?" file. I still play ATOMIZER frequently, so I was tickled by this news.

Word has it that King Roeser from Urge is recovering from a recent heart attack.

Did Albini ever record The Cramps? (He's always eschewed the title "producer.")

Seeing this post about Steve right next to the one about Nick Knox just got me thinking in that direction.

Cocaine Piss...what an absolutely AWFUL name.

Maybe he can take that money and put it into a new Shellac album - I'd like for him go full Phil Spector and make it the weirdest Shellac album ever.

I remember Westerberg sort of always disliked him when Albini as a critic wrote a famous negative review of Let It Be. I know in 1985 when Rolling Stone asked him for his top 10 of the year he came up with this very Westerberg list as a sort of middle finger response:

Bulldozer, Big Black
"Ghostbusters," Ray Parker Jr.
Make It Big, Wham!
Isolation, Toto
"Hard To Say I'm Sorry," Chicago

"Swept Away," Diana Ross
Welcome to the Pleasure Dome, Frankie Goes to Hollywood
What About Me?, Kenny Rogers
1100 Bel Air Place, Julio Iglesias
"Hello," Lionel Richie
