RIP Matt Dike (Dust Bros/Delicious Vinyl)

He helped bring hiphop into the mainstream thanks to a bunch of records i bought back when the whole white-guys-with-electric-guitars routine was just spinning its wheels and rap was the new punk: Tone Loc, YoungMC, and the "Sgt Pepper" of hip hop, "Pauls Boutique."

Had no idea, but he retreated to his hilltop drug den in 1991 and was rarely seen in public since - "the Howard Hughes of hip hop." Age 56.

Dust brothers also did Hansons 'mmm bop'. DON'T laugh derisively!! As a fan of fun dumb pop, you have to admit this was pretty fun and dumb.... and the dust brothers made that thing work.

His work on Paul's boutique alone was enough to get a gold star. So dense, that record... spent a lot of time with that one in my "disillusioned late 80's period".

Didn't know he became a recluse like that....kind of sad considering his knack for getting people to actually go out and move!
