R.I.P. Gord Downie

Canada's greatest rock star.

Not unexpected, given his condition, but a shame. Given the Tragically Hip's importance to the country, I can't imagine how their fans are feeling right now. Justin Trudeau delivered a very emotional statement that made me tear up.

I have to admit I quit listening to the Hip around the mid-90s, for one reason or another. But in the late 80s and early 90s I was a big fan. The cassette of Fully Completely pretty much lived in my car and jambox when it came out.

As close as we may have to a secular saint, here in Canada. Gordon Downie was universally loved and respected.

"Ahead by a Century" was the unofficial anthem of the Canada 150 celebration this past summer.

And now the Canadian winter is a little bit colder.
