The Skids are back with a new album

Richard Jobson is back with the first Skids album in 35 years; "Burning Cities" with a Pledge Music campaign.

Lineup Is: Jobson, Bill Simpson, Mike Baillie, Bruce & Jamie Watson with 40th anniversary tour to follow next year. The pledge campaign includes some modestly priced VIP perks, but the actual new CD is only $16, postage included. I might have to order this just because.

Never a huge Skids fan, though perhaps I should have been one! One week in 2002, I listened to "Into The Valley" on repeat all day long to the exclusion of anything else. I must have heard the track about 600-700 times during the 8-9 hours of the day [five day span]. Then… nothing. I had the track on a Rhino New Wave comp and I guess it got its hooks into me for those few days. I always meant to get some Skids albums, but never got around to that.

I will definitely check this out! Interesting that Bruce Watson (and son) is replacing Stu Adamson on guitar, though I know he played with The Skids a few years ago live.

On a related note...to my horror, Big Country didn't call it quits when Mike Peters bowed out. I checked the website yesterday just for kicks, and they're still going with guys I've never heard of...sad.

Interestingly enough, within days of posting this, I was in Harvest Records and saw the Captain Oi! CDs of "Days In Europa" [original version] and "The Absolute Game" in the used bin so naturally, I bought. Immediate love for "Europa" but I'm a Bill Nelson fan. Worked like a fiend for me. "Game" was the incipient sound of "Big Music" manifesting for all to see. More banal and anthemic without the intriguing details of "Europa." It really prefigured Big Country to these ears, though I'm still listening to it. Right now I'm chewing through "Strength Through Joy," included as bonus material. There is a Virgin Years 6xCD box with pretty much everything for a few bucks more than what I paid for these. Maybe I'll get that? It's the only affordable way to get the "Europa" remix album on CDd. The earlier Japanese copy is pricey, of course.
