"Blondie's New York": excellent look at the making of "Parallel Lines", interviews with everyone, inc producer Mike Chapman, really breaking down how most of the songs were written and recorded (Netflix)

"Gimme Danger": Jim Jarmuch's Stooges doc; haven't seen it yet, but is getting excellent notices. (Amazon video -don't know this service, guess it's like Netflix?)

"Danny Says": Danny Fields biopic; making the festival rounds (I missed it); Fields has a new book of his Ramones photos out

The Ramones and the Birth of Punk: Grammy museum exhibit in LA, runs to Feb; will def be checking this out

"Sex and Broadcasting": fun doc about WFMU; the usual talking head interviews (as opposed to Talking Heads interviews!) w/ the likes of Lee Renaldo, but the footage of fund-raising stunts were the best bits (Netflix)

And after all that crazy rockin and rollin, check out:

"Llyn Folkes One Man Band": great outsider artist/musician performs Spike Jones-like songs on an enormous hand-made contraption; a local character, I've seen him live a few times

Oasis "Supersonic" and Zappa's "Eat That Question"

I recently saw "Danny Says" and "Gimme Danger" in the theater. The two films cross over admirably, with possibly the same footage [or scenes from the same interviews] figuring in each. If you see one, you should see the other! One is made by a major director but Iggy's in both, and Danny Fields was the Zelig of Rock®!

For further rumination on the Fresh New Sound of Yesterday®

I saw the Ramones exhibit earlier this year. Very good, but was unexpectedly saddened by the sight of their touring gear, sitting there like stuffed and mounted dead things, knowing that it would never again be used. And of course, it really hit home that I'll never see Da Brudders live again. Glad i did when i had the chance.

But anyway, how's THIS for amazing:

Odd that a purportedly Grammy-related museum would host an exhibit on X, since I'm pretty sure that they (or The Ramones) never came anywhere close to winning one of those trophys, but hey, at least this band's members are all alive to enjoy this particular honor. Coincidentally (?) the kooky X semi-documentary "The Unheard Music" is also now playing on Amazon.

Oh, and The Stooges doc is recommended.
