They've finally gone too far

I cried out on many occasions against the spreading horror, but now it's finally claimed a victim that should've been sacred.

That's about the worst Ramones cover I've ever heard, and a lazy use of that particular song, to boot. Too bad, as the movie itself looks quite intriguing.

Also in the previews reel at the showing of Arrival I went to, a nearly identical butchering of "I Walk the Line."

I honestly don't know what to think of this. I like the band's other stuff - falls somewhere between Spain and Congo Norvell. They certainly know what to do with this melody - it's actually pretty in their hands. But, goddammit, it's REO freaking Speedwagon, about whom I feel the way most of you feel about Styx.

Cringe! Could only take a few seconds of each. Just when i think the "waif"* fad can't get any worse.

Not just movie trailers, but drama/crime shows frequently end episodes with a montage featuring a sloooooowed-down waif-sung cover that massacres the original. Mrs Fab watches those "Law and Order" type shows, and everytime she heaves a sigh, grabs the remote and fast-forwards thru it. She has pointed out that "they all sound like they're sung by the same person!"


*as the internet has dubbed these annoyingly squeeky-voiced girl/women

Can I give it back?

I saw that band open for Garbage last year. Believe me, it was as bad as you might have imagined. All their songs were dreary and mopey -- the sound I've heard called "slow-core," except without the core part. Nothing strong underneath the misery. The singer announced one song by saying, "This is about being really unhappy because your girlfriend left you because you abused her." With that, I expected them to play something that would've had a little passion at least ... but no, the ensuing song was as wispy and weightless as everything else they played. When they did that R.E.O. cover, though, my disdain for them as a band turned into hatred of those guys as people. The urge to jeer them from the balcony was nothing less than physical. When they announced that they'd be at the merch booth after their set, I struggled with the desire to go there and insult them.
